By
now, each student should understand what a rubric is
and the power of using one for assessment.
Characteristics of a rubric used for classroom
assessments:
1. Bridge between standards and assessment
2. Components: dimensions, scale, descriptors
3. Formative and summative
4. Students, as well as teachers should use the rubric
5. A way to define excellence, especially in dealing with processes or
abstract concepts
6. Provides a common "language" to help diverse groups talk
about a complex process
You can generate rubrics on your own, or use one of the many Rubric web pages
online - http://www.ncsu.edu/midlink/rubrics/index.htm,
http://rubrics.com and http://rubistar.4teachers.org/index.php
You will want to be certain that you address the appropriate level of Blooms
Taxonomy when teaching and subsequent design of your rubrics.
Additional assistance using Blooms can be found at http://nerds.unl.edu/pages/preser/sec/articles/blooms.html.
For this assignment, you will
prepare an authentic assessment rubric for one of the many activities,
laboratories and other hands-on, contextual events we performed in
class or for one of your lessons. You may select any of the events and prepare a rubric,
ensuring that you are addressing the rubric items I have identified at http://www.jhargis.com/assessr.htm
which will be addressing your rubric. As you can see from the
rubric, you will need a Formative and Summative component to your rubric.
