Informal Writing (10%)

Informal writing increases students’ overall ability to write and will include one or more of the following assigned prior to, during or after class:
  • In-class writing
  • Journaling without worrying about grammar, spelling, flow
  • Informal assessments that include writing components
  • Reading responses
  • Responses to newspapers, TV, movies
  • Blackboard discussion boards
  • Think–Pair -Square–Share debriefings
  • Role play, debates, and case-studies preparation
  • Peer note checking
  • Cooperative/collaborative learning
  • One minute papers
  • Muddiest points
  • Blogging;
  • Note comparisons
  • Evaluation of another's work
  • Active review sessions
  • Work at the board.

Measurement, assessment and evaluation of informal writing will be frequent and feedback will be provided efficiently.  As part of our commitment to preparing for each class and attending with an engaging, participatory attitude, this facet of our learning should be expected and embraced.

Data will be collected at least every other week and the points will total 10% of your final assessment.
